2012 Honda Civic. Champion of its class.
Introduction.
For the last decade, the Toyota Prius has been the benchmark when it comes to automotive fuel efficiency, with a very strong reputation, that Toyota, decided to create an entire family of Prius beginning this year with the Prius V.
Honda on its part has been producing its own line of hybrids since 1999, the first being the Insight, but has failed to match the Prius, produced by Toyota in both power and fuel economy. The new 2012 Civic Hybrid may have changed all that and is set to become "Honda's Prius." And catch up with its competitor.
The Engine
The Honda Civic system has some similarities to the last Civic Hybrid and the current Insight. The electric motor sits in between the CVT and the gasoline engine thus when in electric mode, the gas engine must always turn. The Civic has four cylinder which has grown from 1.3-liters to 1.5-liters and delivers 110 system horsepower when combined with the new 23 hp electric motor.
Cost
Honda Civic is cheaper than Toyota's Prius due to it's options like the self-parking system which Civic Hybrid doesn't offer. Also the Prius has 51mpg city and 48 mpg on the highway, while the 2012 Civic Hybrid is rated at 44 mpg for both city and highway.
Exterior and Interior
The Civic quite similar to the last Civic Hybrid despite all-new aerodynamic skin. Its dash and display look are located in front of the driver's sight line and easier to read and more inviting, but he Prius's futuristic dash that lets everyone know that they have got plenty of advanced tech onboard.
The civic has it's interior covered by plastics, a good and spacious headroom, but a lesser legroom.
In terms of cruise, civic produces less noise on the road due to wind drag compared to Prius.
The Trunk
In terms of cargo, the Civic's trunk has an increase from the previous model, but just half the capacity of its competitor, the Prius.
Conclusion
Honda civic is a fuel economy ride and with the fuel countinuing to rise everytime, this are the cars to beat the inflation and take you through the crazy Nairobi traffic.
